One of my New Year’s resolutions was to become more independent. I had been living at home with my folks ever since I graduated college two years ago. It was nice because I was able to pay down my student loans a good bit, but I still knew that it was time to cut the apron strings. My parents completely understood, and they even helped me find the apartment that I live in now. My dad had done a search for Antioch TN apartments because he wanted to make sure that where ever I lived was safe for his baby girl.

I was born and raised in the South. It was my home for a long time. All the values I accumulated over the years came from the South. While I was in college, I met my future wife Jenny. I felt that our move was necessary for the both of us. First, Jenny and I found very good job offers outside of our home state. We decided that the offers were once in a lifetime opportunities that come once in a lifetime. We had to relocate to a new locale to start our careers. Another reason that we moved was because of the weather.
It hasn’t been long since I moved into the Stone Oak Apartments in San Antonio TX, but I must say that I love it. The apartments are great, and I love that I have access to a pool and gym. The best thing about the apartments is that I’ve meet some people who are great to be around. Whenever we have some free time, we get together and do something at the apartments or at a nearby location. I met these people in some interesting ways.
I met one person while I was swimming at the pool in the apartments on my first week of moving in. I was doing some laps up and down the pool, when this person asked me if I wanted to have a bit of a race. This person took swimming as more of a competition, rather than a simple way to have fun or exercise. I agreed to the race, and started swimming as fast as I could. I was actually able to beat this person, which was a surprise to the both of us. He wanted to know how I was able to beat him so easily.
When I found out that the company I work for was opening up a distribution center in San Antonio, I got excited. Almost my entire family lives in that area, and I was nearly 400 miles away. I talked with my bosses about getting a transfer there, and they actually did even better than that. They offered me a promotion there, which meant I could go there immediately and help with setting up the center. That meant I had to do a search for Alamo Heights apartments in San Antonio because I wanted to live close to where I was going to work.
I am a jewelry designer. I create all of my own pieces, and I have been very busy with orders. I decided that I was going to look into a company that does catalogue printing in Brisbane to see if it was feasible to have one created for me that has my most popular pieces in it. I usually just show pictures of my different pieces to people who are interested, and I figured there had to be a better way. Being an artist, I have been told I am too critical of some things, including print material. I cannot help it though, and I want what I want. Knowing that this company would give me exactly that, I went there in person to talk with them. Even though I liked what I saw, I still wanted to make sure that we were on the same page.
There is a lot of detail in my jewelry pieces, so I wanted to make sure that this would not be lost in the transition from photos to catalogue. I did not have to worry though, because the printers are professionals who take every precaution to ensure they are putting out the best print media they can. I was very satisfied with the first catalogue they did for me, and I am going to have them do a Christmas edition for me soon. Sales are up, so it is keeping me pretty busy, but I am very happy with that as I don't like to be idle at all!
I knew that I had to fill a position in my company quickly, but I was not having any luck. I had run an ad in the city paper, and I honestly thought that would be enough. The city has a college and major businesses in it, so I thought it would be easy to find what I needed, but it was proving to be much harder than that. A colleague of mine suggested that I look into tech headhunters, and he even told me which one his own company uses. Before contacting the headhunters he told me about, I wanted to learn more about them first. I was not about to entrust this with a company that was just a recommendation without knowing more about them. As I looked at their website, I became impressed with what they do. They only use recruiters who have been in the industry for a long period of time, which means I am not getting someone just out of college or with one year of experience trying to fill a position that they know next to nothing about.
Their site states that their recruiters have over a dozen years experience on average in the field, which really helped me a lot. I also like that they get back to their clients so quickly. This is important because things in this type of business can change at the flip of a coin, and I wanted to have access to the people who were going to help my company find the right tech executive. This ended up working out quite well for me, and I had the position filled in less than three weeks!
The sun was directly overhead at noon. No one was outside on that Saturday mowing lawns, pulling weeds or even having a barbecue. It was just too hot. I knew that any company doing air conditioning repair in NYC was out in full force making the best of the hot weekend and all the broken air conditioners. The tech for the company that does air conditioning repair in NYC called us back and said he would be by in about three hours. He was working his way back to their office doing calls as fast as he could. There was one other person ahead of us, and he knew they needed a new compressor. He said he had it on the truck, and he was working as fast as he could. I really admired their commitment to serving customers. I told him that if he gets a call from an elderly or disabled person, that he should take them first. I was going to send the wife and kids to a hotel and stop down at the local department store and buy a fan.
I was sitting in front of the TV set with a big glass of iced tea and the fan on high blowing in my face when the doorbell rang. The air conditioner had came on just a few seconds before the doorbell rang. The tech was at the door. He said he turned the shutoff switch back on out by the AC unit. He said that it did not have a lock on it, and that it was obvious that someone just pulled the red handle and shut it off. I could not believe it. The hotel cost almost $200, and the fan was almost $50. I never thought for a second that someone would pull the disconnect on the power box for the central air unit outside. Now it has a lock on it.
